Health chief graces AUF School of Medicine graduation rites

ANGELES CITY — Department of Health secretary Enrique Ona will be the guest of honor and speaker at the commencement exercises of the Angeles University Foundation School of Medicine today, Wednesday.
AUF President lawyer Joseph Emmanuel L. Angeles said Ona will address 51 candidates for graduation led by class valedictorian Ketan Kumar Kapoor, class salutatorian Erica Christine M. Baltazar, class rank 3 and most outstanding clerk Amrita Kumari, and class rank 4 Satish Ramesh Rohra.
During the event, Ona will be presented the Distinguished University Medal of Honor in recognition of his meritorious academic achievements and in praise of his contributions to medicine in the country.
A TOYM awardee for medicine in 1979, Ona finished medicine at UP Manila in 1962 and obtained residency training in various hospitals across the United States from 1966 to 1969.
He completed a surgical residency program in Organ Transplantation as a Colombo Scholar at the Cambridge University in England in 1973 and was certified by the American Board of Surgery in 1968 and by the Philippine Board of Surgery in 1970.
He was later admitted as a visiting fellow of the Royal Society at Cambridge University Addenbrooke’s Hospital. Prior to his current post, he was executive director of the National Kidney and Transplant Institute from 1998 to 2010.
