Hard labor rewards 2 PCSO employees with own houses
April 29, 2011
BACOLOR — Fifty-one-year old Romulo De Dios has lived in their family’s old house in Guagua town all his life.
“The old house was in Barangay San Pedro. I grew up there and even stayed in my parent’s house even after marriage,” De Dios said.
De Dios, a Pampanga-based employee of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), said he cannot afford to buy or even rent a house for his family.
Not until Suncove Corporation, a PCSO-recognized small town lottery operator, started its housing project for the likes of De Dios.
PCSO General Manager Jose Ferdinand Rojas II and Suncove president Dr. Eder Dizon formally turned over to De Dios and his family a yellow-colored house in Barangay Cabambangan, Bacolor on Thursday.
“I am more than happy to receive this house. Finally, after 51 years, I now have my own house,” De Dios said.
De Dios has been a PCSO-STL employee for more than 25 years.
Like De Dios, Marcelo Candelaria, 79, received his first owned-house from the Suncove Corporation Thursday.
“I used to live with my parents but when I got married, I had to rent a house. I was renting that house for 14 years. Now, I left that house because I have my own now,” Candelaria said.
Candelaria’s new house is located in Purok 3, Barangay Solib, Floridablanca.
Vincent Juico, chief of staff of PCSO Chairman Margarita Juico and PCSO Provincial District Officer Henry Abejuela also witnessed the turnover and ribbon cutting rites of the housing units.
Both of the houses bore the PCSO’s logo to give due honor to the charity office, Suncove Corporation President Dizon said.
At least 18 housing units were awarded by the Suncove Corporation to old PCSO employees. At least 14 of these are in Guagua town, six in Floridablanca while the other two are in Bacolor town.
Aside from these newly completed houses, about 16 units are still undergoing construction.
“This housing project is an addition to the financial support that we provide our employees with,” Dizon said.
A total of 162 houses will be built by the corporation across Pampanga within three years.
PCSO General Manager Rojas said the housing units are only among the first benefits that Suncove Corporation will give to PCSO employees.
Rojas said PCSO employees will later receive health and other benefits.
