GG Royale Pawnshop denies reported robbery

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The management of GG Royale Pawnshop on Monday clarified that its branch in Barangay Sindalan here was not robbed of P4 million in jewelry and cash by the Acetylene Gang last week.
This came on the heels of a photo caption that came out in the August 13, 2011 issue of Sun.Star Pampanga, saying the pawnshop lost millions in jewelry in cash to the said gang.
In a letter to Sun.Star dated August 13, the GG Royale Pawnshop Corporation said the incident was merely an “attempted robbery” since the underground tunnel, which the gang supposedly dug up to gain access to their establishment, was discovered early.
“It was only an attempted robbery since we discovered early enough the underground digging before they were able to penetrate the cash vault,” the GG Royale management said.
“We worry about the inaccuracy of this report since our business involves the trust and confidence of pawners and customers. We are concerned about the adverse effects…on our reputation… we have already received queries from our concerned customers regarding their pawned items,” the management said.
Incidentally, a similar incident occurred last week at the Tambunting Pawnshop in Barangay Bulaon, also in this city, wherein the so-called Acetylene Gang carted away P4 million in jewelry and cash, police reports said.
