Foundation to hold lecture series on maternal, infant mortality

BACOLOR – The Kapampangan Development Foundation (KDF) will host on Monday the first of a series of lectures on maternal and infant mortality at the Jesus A. Datu Medical Center (JADMC) here.
KDF president Benigno Ricafort said the lecture series, dubbed as “MDG: Maternal and Infant Mortality,” is part of the KDF’s goal of helping the country meet the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) of reducing maternal and infant mortality through an effective awareness campaign.
Lecturer for the said event is Dr. Benito Arca, assistant regional director of the Department of Health in Central Luzon.
The activity is also in response to the United Nations MDG of improving maternal health by reducing by two-thirds the maternal mortality ratio by 2015.
“We hope to inform people of the need to combat maternal and infant mortality through an effective infant and maternal health program not just in the barangay level but also in the hospitals and homes,” Ricafort said.
At present, the KDF is pushing for the establishment of a maternal and infant birthing clinics that can provide needed medical and health services in the barangay level.
The KDF is also now accepting Well Family Midwife Clinics (WFMC) franchisees to promote affordable maternity health care in the province.
KDF is a member of the Well Family Midwife Clinic Partnership Foundation Inc., a non-profit organization that owns the social franchise that uses the brand name WFMC.
The KDF is also implementing its Maternal-Newborn Child Health and Nutrition with the help of Rotary Clubs of Pampanga, Social Action Center of Pampanga, Lions, Soroptimists, Love for Life Foundation, Datu Angeles David Memorial Foundation Inc., Quota International Pampanga, WPFI, the Department of Health, and Department of Social Welfare and Development, among others.
