Food authority exec lauds municipal ID system

CANDABA — National Food Authority (NFA) Administrator Lito Banayo lauded Thursday this town’s local government unit for being the first in the country to adapt a computerized identification (ID) system for farmers.
Banayo was guest of honor during the launching of the computerized ID system for the farmers held at the municipal hall here Thursday.
“Nakakatuwa dahil iniisip palang ng national government ay ini-implement na dito sa Candaba. Una kayo na nagkaroon nito sa bansa,” he said.
The NFA administrator disclosed that there is a pending proposal in the Department of Agriculture for a comprehensive ID system for farmers in the country.
“Ang nakakatuwa, kahit ngayon lang kami nagka-usap ni Mayor Jerry, may pagkakatulad ang aming mga iniisip, tulad nitong ID system. Ang swerte lang ng Candaba, buhay mag-isip ang inyong mayor. Hindi lang siya kuntento kung ano meron, nag-iisip pa siya ng pamamaraan para lalung umunlad ang mga magsasaka,” Banayo said.
Mayor Jerry Pelayo said the new ID system will minimize corruption if not totally eradicate it.
He said there were instances when the National Government provided assistance during calamities in the form of free seedlings, pesticides, fertilizers and other agricultural needs. However, some individuals took advantage of the lack of information about the legitimate farmers and the actual hectares of their farmlands.
“Yung ID ng magsasaka ay kumpleto sa kailangang impormasyon. Yung pangalan, sukat ng lupang sinasaka, kung ano ang itinatanim at kung saan lugar ito matatagpuan,” Pelayo explained.
The mayor also said that Candaba has an approximate 32,000 hectares of agricultural lands that yield not less than one million cavans of palay a year.
