Firm to provide basketball facility to AirAsia Patriots

CLARK FREEPORT — The Clark Development Corporation (CDC) will provide a facility inside this Freeport to be used by members of AirAsia’s Philippine Patriots team for their training and basketball games.
CDC President Felipe Antonio Remollo made the announcement last Saturday during the free basketball clinic launched by AirAsia, with the “Black Superman” Billy Ray Bates, leading the training of more than 100 children at the Air Force Gym here.
“Once AirAsia’s basketball facility is ready to be used here in Clark, I am hoping that they would not only play regular games inside the Freeport but also they would be conducting regular basketball clinics for the benefit of thousands of children who could be the country’s next big thing in Philippine sports,” Remollo said.
AirAsia President and CEO Maan Hontiveros welcomed the gesture by thanking the CDC for its support to the airline’s sports program and for its bid to transform the Clark airport into its international aviation hub.
Jacque Ruby, marketing officer of AirAsia, said the airline has tapped the expertise of Bates, who will serve as the Patriots’ training coach.
Once noted as the best import of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) in the 1980s, Bates said he is optimistic that he could develop and bring out the best of the Patriots in the hope of clinching a championship title in the future.
Since his assumption to the CDC presidency, Remollo has been at the forefront of promoting the Clark Freeport through various sports activities.
Only recently, Remollo launched the Clark Star program, a project that aims to transform Clark’s Sacobia Valley into sports tourism destination that would feature various sports training facilities, complexes and stadia, and a commercial area to attract more tourists to the Clark Freeport.
