CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) chairman Briccio Santos thanked Mayor Oscar Rodriguez for the City Government’s support in boosting the local film industry, particularly the recent first Pampanga Film Festival here.
The holding of the film fest in the city is just the fourth nationwide, but thousands of locals — based on ticket stub returns from showings at Robinsons Starmills Cinemas and the two FDCP mobile cinema vans that skirted the barangays of San Pedro and Sindalan plus Northville 14 –trooped to the venues to watch 11 award-winning films for free.
“This is the first time we have seen such huge support from a local government unit. We do appreciate it and we promise to come back for more,” said Santos.
“In particular, I would like to thank Sun.Star Pampanga for the support. After it was published here and seen on the web, a lot of friends called me and said ‘This is it, the beginning of our quests.’ Thank you so much to our media friends,” quipped Santos.
Rodriguez, in return, replied: “This is just the beginning. Henceforth, the city will be your partner.”
On the film fest’s Oscar’s Night Saturday at Heroes Hall, outstanding films according to viewers’ reviews were cited and recognized.
Topping the list are Higit sa Lahat, Sampaguita, Rosario, Noy and Tirador. A planned re-run of the fame flicks is scheduled for the Sinukwan Festival.
