Farmers, fisherfolk benefit from Cash-for-Work

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — At least 1,606 small-scale farmers and fisherfolk in Candaba are scheduled to receive food subsidy through the Social Welfare department’s Cash-for-Work project.
Myline Biccay, municipal social welfare and development officer, said their department has allocated P5 million for the intended beneficiaries of Cash-for-Work project in Candaba alone.
She said they are expected to receive their checks before the end of August.
The Cash-for-Work project is a short-term intervention for farmers and fisherfolk and their families who are distressed and in need of assistance.
“Nakatulong po natin sila sa programa na may kaugnayan sa kalinisan ng kapaligiran. Nagkakaroon sa simultaneous na paglilinis sa mga kanal, estero at mga pangunahing kalsada,” she added.
In exchange for the work rendered, the beneficiaries are provided with cash to meet their requirements for food and other basic necessities.
Each participant receives P286 per day for a period of 11 days.
“Ang regional rate po natin ay P286, ibig sabihin makakatanggap ng P286 kada araw ang ating mga beneficiaries sa loob ng labing isang araw. Kasalukuyan na po naming inili-liquidate ito, kaya malapit na po nilang matanggap ang kanilang masasabing sweldo sa katapusan,” she said.
The beneficiaries were identified through the DSWD National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR) survey, which also serves as basis for the Pantawid Pamilya and Social Pension programs.
The program aims to generate temporary employment and provide income augmentation to small-scale farmers and fisherfolk, as well as those affected by disasters and emergencies, and encourage community participation in implementing community-defined projects and prepare them for emergency, hunger mitigation and food security initiatives.
