‘Falcon’ destroys P1.8 million in Zambales crops

ZAMBALES — Some P1.8 million worth of crops here were destroyed during the height of Tropical Storm “Falcon”, which caused flooding in different barangays.
A total of 89 families were also forced to evacuate from their homes.
A report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Monitoring Council (PDRRM) in Zambales stated that a total of six barangays were inundated in knee-deep water. These include the villages of San Miguel, Santiago, West Dirita and Angeles, all of San Antonio town; and Paco and Campo in Botolan.
Zambales Governor Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. ordered the distribution of food to affected families in San Antonio and Botolan.
He also gave instructions to the Provincial Engineering Office for the procurement of 128,000 sandbags for the temporary rehabilitation of the eroded portion of the highway in San Antonio.
As of 5 p.m. Thursday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) spotted Falcon at 420 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora.
It has merged with the low pressure area and intensified slightly as it moves northwestward.
Storm Signal number 1 is still raised over the provinces of Quezon, Aurora, Albay, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Isabela, Cagayan, Calayan, Babuyan Group of Islands and Batanes Group of Islands. (Anthony Bayarong)
