Execs urged to help employ Kapampangan nurses

CANDABA — A group of parents is asking the help of the Provincial Government for the possible employment of their children who are currently unemployed after passing the nursing board examination.
Rechita Estacio, mother of a registered nurse, said she has supported the studies of her daughter with the help of some relatives despite financial difficulties.
She is hoping that her daughter could help them in battling poverty by being employed in a hospital, whether private or public.
Estacio, however, is saddened by the fact that her daughter has a hard time finding employment.
“Nakakalungkot. Ang tagal naming hinintay na maging rehistradong nurse ang anak ko pero pagkatapos pala ng mga sakrapisyo ay walang opurtunidad para sa kanila,” she said.
Estacio’s daughter is now employed as a saleslady in a drug store in a neighboring town.
The parents are also urging local officials to think of a legislative measure that could provide Kapampangan registered nurses employment opportunities in public hospitals and municipal, as well as barangay health centers all over the province.
“Siguro pwede namang i-absorb ng mga pampublikong hospital at mga health centers ang mga unemployed na nurses para magamit naman nila ang kanilang propesyon sa pagtulong sa kababayan nila,” another parent here said.
In a related development, the Commission on Higher Education (Ched) encouraged students Monday to take up courses other than nursing.
Reports have it that lawyer Julito Vitriolo, Ched executive director, said this is one of the measures being taken by the commission even before the results of the November 2009 nursing licensure exam came out. Only 37,527 or 39.72 percent of the 94,462 takers passed.
Meanwhile, a total of 29,711 out of 84,287 passed the Nurse Licensure Examination given by the Board of Nursing last December 2010.
