Ex-provincial accountant commits suicide in Bataan

BALANGA City, Bataan — A former provincial accountant allegedly involved in a P250-million housing scam took his own life last Monday in Pilar town.
Police identified the victim as Numeruano Medina, 57, concurrent administrator of the Bataan Transport Mall (BTM).
Investigations said Medina shot himself with a .45 caliber pistol in the mouth inside his house in Villa Juana Subd., Barangay Rizal, Pilar town.
Bataan Governor Enrique Garcia filed graft charges against Medina and former provincial administrator Renato Bagay for the questionable P250-million Peninsula Heights housing project.
Medina allegedly failed to submit financial and audit reports to the Commission on Audit regarding the housing project.
Lawyer Aurelio Angeles, provincial legal officer, said Medina already received his dismissal order last July 14 from the Office of the Ombudsman but since no order from the Department of Interior and Local Government has yet reached his office, Medina continued to serve in BTM.
His neighbors said the night before Medina took his life, they noticed that he was on the cellphone talking to someone, and had parked his car in front of his terrace which he did not usually do. (Anthony Bayarong)
