Dole Usec’s challenge: More jobs in Central Luzon
February 13, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Acting Labor Secretary Undersecretary Danilo P. Cruz has challenged Public Employment Service Office (Peso) managers all over the region to come up with more jobs in Central Luzon.
He made the challenge during the kick-off of the recently concluded three-day Peso Year End Planning Assessment (Yepa) at the Fontana Hotel and Leisure Park, Clark Field.
Cruz emphasized the crucial role of the Pesos in the implementation of employment and welfare programs to Dole’s clients, especially those in the grassroots level.
It is through the Peso that jobseekers and workers in the informal sector are given easier access to employment opportunities and livelihood programs, Cruz said.
The Peso, Cruz said, must ensure the support of its local chief executives (LCEs) from the continuous delivery of service.
“The Dole, for its part, responds by completing its nationwide orientation on Peso Programs to LCEs to solicit their support in fully implementing programs,” Cruz said.
He also urged the Dole regional offices and Pesos to fervently advocate the institutionalization of the Pesos.
“Through this undertaking, the Pesos will be more equipped and have a better hand in implementing its mandates,” he added.
According to Cruz, another strategic move is the full and proactive utilization of the Skills Registry System (SRS) and the Phil-Jobnet, which are considered as online mechanisms in addressing job mismatches.
With both systems already in place, both online/offline job referrals will be made readily available to clients, Cruz said.
Both the ROs and Pesos, Cruz said, should review the new job fair guidelines in order to fast-track the delivery of employment facilitation services to the poor, unemployed, new entrants to the labor force, displaced, and returning migrants all over the region.
Also, he said the Pesos must come up with better career coaching mechanisms to give ample time for third and fourth year high school students in carefully choosing the right courses to take in college, in line with the preparation for employment in new and emerging industries.
“The Pesos must be steadfast in their commitment and promote the culture of goodwill in finding decent employment which will empower the Filipino workforce in line with President Benigno S. Aquino’s 22-point labor and employment agenda,” Cruz said.
