Defer monthly amortization of Northville settlers: execs

MABALACAT — Officials in this first-class town are asking the National Government to defer the monthly housing amortization of residents at Northville 16 in Barangay Atlu-Bola here.
The request was gleaned in a Municipal Council Resolution Number 78 Series of 2011, which asks President Benigno Aquino III, through Vice President Jejomar Binay, to defer the amortizations for a period of not less than three years housing units at Northville resettlement intended for informal settlers at the old Philippine National Railways (PNR).
Mayor Marino Morales said he personally handed the resolution to Binay, who is also the head of Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), during the latter’s visit in Clark on Monday.
Morales said majority of the families relocated to the resettlement center cannot afford to pay monthly amortizations because majority of them are not employed or do not have livelihood.
Municipal Administrator Rosano Paquia said about 2,000 families are now living in Northville 16. However, more than 3,000 families are yet to be resettled into the area.
With this, the Municipal Council passed another resolution requesting Binay to construct additional 3,700 housing units inside the resettlement site, according to Morales.
The HUDCC and the National Housing Authority built the community for the informal settlers of the old railway but each family-beneficiary should pay the National Government P200,000 within 25 years for the housing unit they occupy.
