‘Cult’ rumors dispelled

ANGELES CITY – Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan of this city denied rumors circulated through text messages about cults scouring the city, knocking on doors and murdering innocent families.
The false reports have placed fear upon the citizens over the past few weeks.
The alarming texts reportedly came from Pamintuan, who said that families have to exercise caution when someone knocks on their doors as these may be the rumored cults who murdered a certain “Lantenior family” from Barangay Pandan here.
But the mayor quickly denied sending these messages, said the City Government utilizes the correct channels for information distribution.
Senior Supt. Melchor Reyes, acting police director here, said the reports about the cults are not true.
Reyes said the city police have not received any reports and they do not have any records on the matter.
“Huwag po tayong mag-alala, wala po tayong kultong gumagala,” Reyes said in an interview.
He said that based on their investigation the Lantenior case in Barangay Pandan “does not exist.”
The text rumor daunted citizens, particularly the youth, who widely use text messaging as a means of communication.
Before these rumors entered Angeles City, it already circulated from Pangasinan and Tarlac, which were also found to be hoax.
