City partners with waste water treatment firm
Monday, January 24, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The City Government of San Fernando has partnered with international waste water treatment expert EPIC Clear Water to improve the water quality of the San Fernando River.
This was announced over the weekend by City Administrator Ferdinand Caylao, who said that the move is part of the ongoing P700-million Sagip Ilog Project.
The partnership is in addition to the city’s counterpart funding and investment of P100 million, in partnership with the National Government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
Caylao said the City Government has been taking bold steps to rehabilitate the San Fernando River.
The partnership was earlier revealed by Mayor Oscar Rodriguez during the forum on climate change and disaster risk reduction and management at Heroes Hall last week.
According to Rodriguez, some of their moves are in keeping with the Sagip Ilog Project. The City’s plan is to have used-water treatment to ensure safe water for the city’s people. The used water to be treated includes water coming from factories and households, especially those in the poblacion area.
“Bago lalabas iyan sa kailugan ay iti-treat para sa pagprotekta sa kalikasan (Before used water from these sources flow into the rivers, it will be treated to protect the environment),” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez told Sun.Star Pampanga that areas covered by the Sagip Ilog project will be fenced to stop, once and for all, the throwing of garbage into the San Fernando River.
Rodriguez also said they will be providing an alternative passageway for used water from households, especially those in areas covered by the Sagip Ilog Project. He stressed the importance of a complete drainage system in their front yards to ensure proper disposal of used water before treatment. (Jovi T. De Leon)
