City acquires rescue vehicles, equipment
March 22, 2011
ANGELES CITY — The City Government has acquired rescue vehicles and equipment to improve its capability in responding in times of disasters.
Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, along with City Council members, presented the vehicles and other rescue equipment during Monday’s flag-raising ceremony at City Hall.
“These strengthen our capability to respond to emergency and calamitous situations. In case of disaster, we have our equipment and rescue vehicle. Now we are ready,” Pamintuan said.
He added the next step would be to train dedicated emergency response unit personnel from the Angeles City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (ACDRRMO).
The new equipment include a brand new and state-of-the-art ambulance that will be used by the Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center (RLMMC), formerly Ospital Ning Angeles (Ona), and a 4×4 rescue vehicle to aid in various disasters such as fires and floods.
The rescue vehicle came with a winch, a device with a horizontal cylinder and a hook-attached rope to be used for pulling metal grilles or any other obstructions that hinder the rescue of victims during calamities, especially during fire incidents.
Some useful tools like Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBAs) were purchased to aid the city’s disaster personnel and firefighters by having breathable air against billowing smoke in a fire rescue operation.
Other tools include a chainsaw, an extended ladder for multi-storey rescue operations, generator and portable radio sets, emergency lights and heavy duty flashlights, protective hand gloves, hard hats and others.
The ambulance was turned over to RLMMC director Dr. Antonio Dizon, while Lito Caparas of the ACDRRMO received the 4×4 emergency vehicle and other rescue equipment.
City Administrator Dennis Albert Pamintuan said another ambulance would be acquired from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), wherein 40 percent of the costs would be shouldered by the City Government and the remaining 60 percent by the PCSO.
Meanwhile, Pamintuan requested the participation of the government employees in the Earth Hour on Saturday, March 26, to be observed from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. to raise the consciousness of the people on environmental care and protection.
The mayor said the observance of this event would be beneficial to the environment and the possible prevention of natural calamities brought out by climate change.
