Cannibals’ attack materials recovery facility
MEXICO – Unknown suspects recently stripped-off electrical wirings and devoured machineries in this town’s materials recovery facility MRF, virtually leaving the site in Barangay Sukluban a heap of decay that will send hard-core environmentalists wondering if it was true.
In an inspection by officials Monday, it was found out that the town’s MRF proudly bragged about stopping operations a few weeks back after Mayor Teddy Tumang’s suspension, with heaps of garbage unattended, piling each day as machines remained dysfunctional.
A Sun.Star Pampanga source who requested anonymity said the MRF has been almost cannibalized: “The MRF is non-functional because the electrical wirings have been stripped off. The machines are not working and even the tractors donated by [Third District] Congressman Dong Gonzales Jr. have been cannibalized. Altogether? The damage is around P300,000 sa pera ng taong-bayan.”
“Binakal at kinalakal lahat as soon as acting Mayor Roy [Manalastas] assumed the post. Maski nga sound system na ginagamit sa flag ceremony, sa kanila daw. But what they did—kung sino man sila—to the MRF is horrible,” added the source.
Immediately, Acting Mayor Roy Manalastas attended to the concern and allocated some P70 ,000 for the re-electrification of the MRF.
“I have relayed the information to the Governor [Lilia Pineda]. This is just a sorry story for the people of Mexico. But we are working on it much that Mexico, with the time and resources in our hands, should be as it is as people want,” said Manalastas.
