Botika ng Barangays’ trained on good dispensing practices
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO–To ensure appropriate drug monitoring and dose adjustments in patients with varying disease conditions, it is very important in the profession of pharmasists that they provide correct drug and pharmaceutical advice.
Recognizing this vital role of the pharmacists deployed in all Botika ng Barangay (BnB) in Central Luzon, the Center for Health Development 3 (CHD-3), through the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), facilitated a training on Good Dispensing Practices (GDP) for the two batches of operators of the top performing BnBs from the provinces of Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga and Tarlac.
The training primarily aims to orient BnB operators on the operation of Botika ng Barangay as per Administrative Order 144, as well as to capacitate operators on quality assurance, patient counselling, medication safety and good dispensing practices and to teach them the procedures on how to report adverse drug reaction.
During the training, the facilitators made an overview of the AO 144 which was issued by the Department of Health (DOH), providing the rules and regulation in the establishment and operation of BnBs. They focused on the definition of terms, BnB licensing guidelines and grounds for suspension and revocation of the Special License to Operate (SLTO).
The participants were reminded on their responsibilities as pharmacists, the good dispensing practices and communicating well with patients and BnB clientele.
The grounds for revocation of SLTO under the Department Memorandum 2012-0253 and the revocation of the seed capital and remaining medicines due to non-compliance BnB regulations were also discussed.
To standardize the reporting system, Rachelle Vergara, BnB Pharmacist of Bulacan, discussed the format used in BnB record books for accounting and recording. It was agreed that the operators will be accomplishing their monthly disbursement and daily sales record.
