Board member: Porac zipline now being studied
SECOND district Board Member Salvador Dimson Jr. said Thursday that Porac town may soon have its own zipline facility as provincial officials are now studying proposals for the tourism development plan.
Dimson, during the opening of the upland eco-tourism facilities at Barangay in Nabuclod, Floridablanca town, said the planners have recently visited the Villa Maria Atea village in Porac for the proposed creation of a zipline facility that will complement other eco-tourism attractions in the area.
“A zipline facility is a good come-on for tourists and eco-tourism enthusiasts who would like to explore the mountain attractions of Porac town,” Dimson said, stressing that the success of the newly constructed zipline facility in Floridablanca will serve as the benchmark of the other tourism amenities in Porac.
Dimson said Porac town will greatly benefit from the proposal in terms of tourism-related revenue and promotion of its local attraction, crafts and products.
Meanwhile, Porac Mayor Condralito dela Cruz also appealed to Governor Lilia Pineda to push for the development of a zipline facility that will complement the existing attractions in the town.
“We have the Miyamit Falls, a view deck and hectares and hectares of rolling mountains with well-kept mountain trails. We have all the conditions for a perfect eco-tourism attraction,” Dela Cruz said.
It could be remembered that in 2011, top government officials led 56 individuals who explored the new 22-kilometer route that gives Pampanga an access to the famous Mt. Pinatubo crater.
Second district Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Governor Lilia Pineda led the opening of a new route to Miyamit Falls, Mt. Pinatubo, and the Porac Highlands.
Pinatubo Memorial Executive Committee (PMEC) chairperson Levy Laus, Mayor Condralito Dela Cruz, Vice Mayor Dexter David, Board members Fritzie David-Dizon and Nestor Tolentino, and members of the Pampanga Off-Roaders Club Inc. (Porci) led by businessman Rene Remero also joined the expedition.
Governor Pineda said the route, which has been developed by the Municipal Government of Porac, will become an alternative route for eco-tourism enthusiasts and hikers who would like to see the Mt. Pinatubo Crater Lake.
The new route is a 22-kilometer dirt road that spans across barangays Sapang Uwak, Villa Maria and Inararo. The road crosses between ridges and even on top of steep mountain ranges in what could be an ambitious engineering accomplishment. It ends along a camping site on top of a hill that provides a view of Zambales and Tarlac. Mt. Pinatubo would only be a two-hour hike from the drop-off point. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
