Bird-hunting ban still up in Candaba
MASANTOL — Masantol Mayor Dan Guintu expressed surprise — and dismay — as the Mayor’s Office was stripped bare of furniture and fixtures allegedly by the former administration of Peter Flores.
“Everything is gone. From tables, chairs, picture frames, pens, paper, curtains and computers. The Mayor’s Office was stripped bare of furniture and fixtures. Pati kahuli-hulihang turnilyo tinangay nila (They took everything to the last screw),” Guintu said.
Guinto, using a monobloc table and chairs from his former campaign headquarters, started his work and met with officials for a disaster preparedness meeting over the weekend.
He told Sun.Star Pampanga he was taken aback when he reported at the Municipal Hall after being sworn in as new mayor of the coastal town, finding his would-be office empty.
“They even switched the computer sets with old ones. All records and files were deleted. Wala pati filing cabinets, ref and the water dispenser,” Guintu said.
The Liberal Party mayor said he has ordered concerned officials at the town hall, particularly the general services officer, to track down the documents covering the furniture, fixtures and equipment belonging to the Mayor’s Office.
“Kailangan nating malaman kung saan nila dinala iyun dahil ang alam ko, iyun ay pag-aari ng Municipal Government at ng mamamayan ng Masantol,” Guintu added.
Asked about the municipal coffers, he quipped: “Mayroon naman naiwan.”
Guintu stressed though, that the stripped and empty office would not stop him from carrying on with his mandated task as local chief executive.
“Tuloy ang ating pagtatrabaho at paglilingkod sa mga taong-bayan ng Masantol. Hindi balakid ang kawalan ng kagamitan sa ating pagsisilbi,” he said.
Sun.Star Pampanga tried but was unable to reach former Mayor Flores for comments as calls to him remained unanswered at press time.
