Arroyo gets post in lady legislators group
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Former president now second district Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was among the newly elected officers of a women’s group based in Congress.
Arroyo was selected as one of the members of the board of advisers to the Association of Lady Legislators (ALL) of the House of Representatives.
ALL is a non-partisan 64-member organization that works for the advancement of women’s agenda in the House.
Aside from Arroyo, three other congresswomen from Central Luzon were elected as ALL officials.
Bulacan Congresswoman Linabelle Ruth Villarica was elected Vice President for Luzon while Nueva Ecija’s Josefina Joson was named Secretary.
Herminia Roman of Bataan was also selected as member of the board of advisers.
Meanwhile, Pangasinan Representative Gina De Venecia was unanimously chosen as president of the lady legislators group.
“Continue to be vigilant in uplifting and guaranteeing women’s rights, to be co-builders of the nation and to struggle for the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs),” De Venecia said in her acceptance speech.
The previous ALL members have worked for the passage of the landmark Magna Carta of Women, the Anti-Violence against Women and the Anti-Trafficking of Persons Act.
