Army: Pampanga insurgency-free

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — An official of 703rd Infantry Brigade (IB) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Thursday said the entire province of Pampanga is insurgency-free.
Colonel Gregorio Catapang, commander of the 703rd IB, during a meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council, said AFP’s internal security operations have significantly degraded the armed capability of the New People’s Army (NPA).
He, however, warned the group is expected to carry out isolated hostile actions against government forces to discredit its counter-insurgency efforts.
The AFP 703rd IB spearheaded the creation of a Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Center (JPSCC) from the regional down to the municipal level. This aims to hasten response time in preserving peace and order and addressing peace and security concerns.
“Bayanihan patrols were deployed in Arayat and Porac towns to monitor and counter reported extortion activities,” Catapang said, adding they will be on the lookout for security problems in the province. (Herbert P. Mapiles)
