Aquino reappoints Lagman as JBC member

FORMER Court of Appeals Justice Aurora Lagman will represent the private sector in the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) for another four years following her re-appointment by President Benigno Aquino III.
Lagman took her oath before Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio last Tuesday, according to a statement from the Supreme Court.
“I am pleased to transmit herewith the appointment paper of Hon. Aurora Santiago-Lagman, as member (ad interim), representing the private sector, Judicial and Bar Council, for a term expiring on 09 July 2016, signed by His Excellency President Benigno Aquino III,” the transmittal letter signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa read.
She is the third appointee of President Aquino to the eight-man body, the other two being lawyers Jose Mejia, JBC representative for the academe, and Milagros Fernan-Cayosa, representing the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP).
Lagman started her career as a government lawyer in August 1978 at the then Citizens Legal Assistance Office, now Public Attorney’s Office, of the Department of Justice.
She was then promoted to State Prosecutor II and later Senior State Prosecutor. She was appointed as judge of the Regional Trial Court in Bulacan on March 14, 1994 where she stayed until her promotion as CA Associate Justice on February 4, 2004.
Lagman, who is married to retired Sandiganbayan Justice Roberto Lagman, ended her stint at the CA on January 16, 2008.
The JBC is currently in the process of selecting the next Chief Justice, which was vacated by Renato Corona last May 29 after he was convicted by the Senate impeachment court for concealing cash assets tantamount to betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Constitution.
