Angeles folk get cash grant thru 4Ps program
March 29, 2011
ANGELES CITY — Some 711 families from 14 barangays in this city received their conditional cash grants Monday under the government’s “Pantawid sa Pamilyang Pilipino Program” (4Ps).
The recipients came from barangays Capaya, Cutcut, Cutud, Cuayan, Balibago, Pandan, Pulung Cacutud, Sapangbato, Lourdes Northwest, Sto. Rosario, Pampang, Sta. Teresita, Salapungan and Sta. Trinidad.
Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan, who graced the turnover ceremony, reminded the recipients to strictly adhere to the program’s conditions.
“The cash grants you are receiving today would be a big help in sustaining your family’s nutrition and educational needs,” the mayor told the recipients.
“Angeles City is one of the most supportive local government units in terms of implementing the 4Ps,” said Adelina Apostol, regional director of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Central Luzon.
Apostol oversees the National Government’s conditional cash transfer (CCT) in Central Luzon. Her office works in close coordination with the City Social Welfare and Development Office headed by Heide Patio.
She also said the success of the national program relies on the support of the local stakeholders.
“With full cooperation of the local chief executive down to city-level social welfare and development office and barangay leaders, more indigent Angeleños are able to benefit from 4Ps,” she said.
Apostol added that an aggressive mobilization of people and massive information dissemination during the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR) led to a broad profiling of indigents living in the city.
The cooperation between the two agencies resulted to more than 1,500 family-beneficiaries as of February this year.
The 4Ps is a poverty reduction strategy that provides grants to poor households in a bid to improve their health, nutrition and education particularly children aged 0-14 years old.
A family can receive as much as P1,400 per month for a maximum of three children, that includes P500 for nutrition and health expenses and P300 per child for education.
Apostol said the beneficiaries will be closely monitored for compliance of the 4Ps’ conditions, such as pre- and post- natal care services among pregnant women; availing of preventive check-ups, vaccines, and de-worming pills among children; maintaining at least 85 percent school attendance among three to 14-year-old children; and attending family development sessions among parents and guardians.
