American jailed for abusing wife

MABALACAT — An American was charged for allegedly abusing and threatening to kill his Filipina wife.
Roger Leslie Owen, 58, married and a resident of Bansil Apartelle Q. Jasmine Street Pineda Subdivision, Dau this town, was charged in court for violating several provisions under Republic Act 9262, otherwise known as Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.
Superintendent Rolly Mendoza, town police chief, said Owen’s wife was working inside her office at the second floor of One Luna Place in Barangay Dau when the suspect harassed her.
Owen reportedly shouted at the victim, saying “You’re a whore! You nasty bitch!”
The victim tried to pacify Owen but he threatened to kill her.
Mendoza said the victim sought police assistance and the suspect was immediately arrested.
Owen refused to issue any comment to the local police without his counsel. (Reynaldo G. Navales)
