Aetas get free bath, clothes

FLORIDABLANCA — Close to 1,500 Aeta families received Friday relief goods, household materials and a free bath and haircut through a social mission led by Governor Lilia Pineda.
The activity, held in Barangay Nabuclod and Mawacat here and Barangay Planas in Porac town, started as early as 5 a.m. Pineda personally led the hygiene activity for some 200 Aeta children.
The children were given new sets of clothes and a bath by Pineda, Board Members Monina Laus Trina Dizon, Fritzie David-Dizon, and Capitol employees who took turns in giving the Aetas a fresh scrub.
Pineda later led the blessing of the newly constructed view deck that is expected to serve tourists and residents alike. The facility overlooks the Nabuclod Highlands and provides a fantastic view of the mountains.
The awarding of certificates of participation was also given to Aetas who finished an art seminar conducted by the Art Association of the Philippines and the Pampanga Public Employment Services Office (Peso).
Pineda lauded the artworks accomplished by the Aetas and promised to sponsor more seminars and activities for their further academic growth.
The governor also distributed relief goods and household items to selected Aeta families.
“We have given out buckets and kitchen utensils among others. We intend to impart on our brother Aetas that they can also live their lives well and should do so whenever they could,” Pineda said.
She said the activity is part of the 20th anniversary commemoration of the Mt. Pinatubo eruption.
The governor also said that Aetas have suffered a lot and have yet to fully recover from the effects of the eruption 20 years ago.
The Provincial Veterinary Office also led the distribution of native pigs to selected Aeta families as a start-up livelihood for the village.
Pineda said the native pigs will become part of a larger livelihood program here in the coming months.
Pineda also distributed relief items to residents of “Tent City” in Barangay Planas in Porac.
