ANGELES CITY — At least 4,000 indigent families from 33 barangays received their passports to health insurance coverage, courtesy of the City Government and the National Government through the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).
The distribution of the PhilHealth ID cards was held Wednesday at the City Council session hall.
Distributing the ID cards to the recipient families and barangay officials were Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan and Vice Mayor Vicky Vega-Cabigting along with Grace Mawawal, PhilHealth-Central Luzon officer, and Myrvi Apostol Fabia, city director of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Joining them in the ID distribution were Councilors Maricel Morales, Edu Pamintuan, Jericho Aguas, Alex Indiongco, Alfie Bonifacio, Jojo Dimapilis, Willie Rivera, Jay sangil and JC Pamintuan.
In his speech, Pamintuan said the giving out of PhilHealth cards to indigent families is in keeping up with the promise of his administration to provide AngeleƱos with better medical and health benefits.
He said enrolling indigents to PhilHealth without the need for them to pay any amount would greatly help them once they need medical care.
With the PhilHealth ID cards, the indigent families may now avail themselves of medical care benefits ranging from allowances for hospital room and board fees, drugs and medicines, x-ray and other laboratory procedures as well as allowances for the professional fees of attending physicians.
These benefits may be availed of during confinement in PhilHealth-accredited hospitals nationwide.
Apart from these inpatient benefits, the cards also entitle them to outpatient diagnostic benefits from designated accredited health centers in the city.
The mayor also announced the City Government is targeting to distribute some 15,000 PhilHealth cards next year.
Pamintuan said the City Government has appropriated P2.4 million for the PhilHealth cards premium which costs P600 per beneficiary.
For her part, Vega-Cabigting said the City Council will continue to approve funds that will be allocated for PhilHealth purposes.
“Health is one of the main priorities of the City Government, the distribution of PhilHealth cards and the opening of the Renal Care Unit are part of our health projects for all the AngeleƱos,” she said.
