3,000 indigents benefit from medical mission

STA. ANA — Governor Lilia Pineda over the weekend led a town-wide medical mission here, providing medical and social services to 3,000 patients and their families.
Pineda formally led the medical mission at the private estate of Mayor Rommel Concepcion in Barangay San Joaquin here. Joining Pineda were board members Monina Laus, Trina Dizon and Rolly Macalino.

The medical mission was participated by some 40 volunteer doctors, nurses and social workers. The medical mission offered free consultation and medical services to minor and major operations.
Free medicines were also dispensed through the governor’s office while patients needing medical services not available in the mission were referred personally by Pineda to accredited and partner hospitals of the province.
“This is one of the biggest missions so far this year and we are happy that the governor was able to cater to so many indigents,” said Laus, committee on health and social services chairman.
According to data from the Municipal Health Office of Sta. Ana, some 1,520 people availed of free consultation, while 400 babies and children received pediatric services. Also, 40 people needing psychiatric attention were also served during the event.
Mayor Concepcion said the medical mission is the biggest of its kind to be held in the town.
“The services were a big help to our people. Imagine having to save almost P3,000 in medicines and check-ups and for ordinary people these services to not come cheap,” he said.
Concepcion said some 40 people availed of minor surgeries performed by volunteer doctors. Concepcion said that Pineda is set to organize another medical mission this coming month.
