3 kids drown in Angeles

ANGELES CITY — The bodies of three children who reportedly drowned at an alleged quarry site in Barangay Margot here were retrieved on Thursday, according to reports.
Police identified the victims as Mary Grace Salado, 11; her brother Ruzzel John, 9; and Adrian Jerome Suba, 10.
Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Recomono, city police director, said initial reports showed that the three children “went out for a swim” at a quarry site in Purok 5.
However, Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan clarified that there are no quarry operations in Barangay Margot here.
Pamintuan said he has issued Executive Order 2, suspending all desilting and quarry operations in Angeles City when he assumed office in July 2010.
Due to the incident, the mayor has instructed barangay officials to implement counter-measures to prevent similar incidents.
He also directed barangay police to prohibit children from swimming in the former quarry site.
Village officials, according to Pamintuan, reported that water pooled at the site due to rains last Tuesday.
He said quarrying was active in the area during the previous administration. (Reynaldo G. Navales)
