2 killed in plane crash

MAGALANG — A flight instructor and his student-pilot were killed when their aircraft crashed Friday night at Sitio Talimundok in Barangay Santa Maria here.
The Magalang police identified the student-pilot of the ill-fated Cessna 152 as Tian Yu Wong, a Malaysian national, and Alfred Christian de Leon, a Filipino flight instructor.
The single-engine airplane was reportedly on a training flight when it malfunctioned before it crashed landed.
Witnesses said the aircraft’s engine stalled or stopped in mid-air. The Cessna plane was reportedly flying at a low altitude.
Captain Amado Soliman of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Board of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (AAIB-Caap), a body now investigating the incident, said the aircraft is owned by Omni Aviation Corporation Flying School based in Clark Freeport.
Soliman said initial investigation showed that there was no distress call received by Omni Aviation or by the control tower base in Pampanga.
The AAIB-Caap, he added, will check the flight and maintenance records of the plane and will likewise interview other witnesses to determine the cause of the incident.
Captain Benhur Gomez, president of Omni Aviation, confirmed ownership of the plane and identified the fatalities, but issued no other details as the investigation was going on at press time. (With Ian Ocampo Flora)
