2 Chinese travel writers sent home

MANILA (Updated) — Malacañang announced it will keep its hands off the investigation on an in-flight argument between President Benigno Aquino III’s brother-in-law and two Chinese mediamen.
But even before the announcement came, the two Chinese travel writers were deported back to their country and were placed on the immigration blacklist.
Tourism Secretary Alberto Lim said the two already apologized to Eldon Cruz and his wife, presidential sister Ballsy Aquino-Cruz.
The two were part of a 12-person Chinese media delegation invited by the tourism department; they were flying to Cebu when the incident occurred last Saturday morning.
“There is an investigation underway by the proper authorities,” said presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte in a radio interview Sunday. She declined to comment further.
“Let’s just leave the investigators first to do their work,” she added.
One of the Chinese nationals reportedly grabbed Eldon Cruz by the collar while another stepped on his foot, after Cruz told them to be careful not to drop their cameras on the airline passengers.
It was not clear what specific charge was used as the basis to deport the two Chinese tourists. Under the law, the grounds for deportation are mostly serious offenses, like profiteering or prostitution.
The Cruz couple decided not to file a complaint against the two Chinese nationals. They visited Cebu to attend a wedding, but flew back to Manila later that day. (Sunnex)
