Tulabut: Get Smart

March 19, 2011

THE world has indeed gone smaller.
You would often hear of this phrase in reference to the internet. Through cyber space, one could easily access information that was once only available in voluminous encyclopedia. Through cyber space, one could have a glimpse of nations and major places of interests that one would normally see in huge posters.
Communication — by voice, video or combination of both — is also made easier and more convenient through the internet. Through this, members of families who are away from one another are made closer. Business transactions across the globe are also finalized, leading to improved viability among enterprises.
Of course, all of these are made hassle-free if oneโ€™s internet connection is fast and reliable.
I could only think of internet connections offered by Smart as one indispensable partner in family and business undertakings.
Iโ€™ve long been a subscriber of SmartBro and it has not given me any problem, say, in the last four years that I have it at home.
With such a minimal speed for my household or personal needs, I could only wonder how powerful Smartโ€™s new offering โ€“ Smart Bro Enterprise (SBE) โ€“ could be.
SBE was launched in Central Luzon two days ago inside Clark Freeport, with reps from tech companies, local government units, computer retailers in attendance. Oh yes, there were also top officers of the Clark Investors and Locators Association like the good looking Lito Mercado of Clark Telecom and debonair Radito Tuazon of Clark Electric.

SBE is a new suite of communications services that will help companies in Northern and Central Luzon raise their operational efficiencies. This will be a very good tool especially for Clark locators and SMEs in the region.
It offers an access solution that provides reliable high speed internet connectivity, using innovative technologies today such as Fixed Wireless and through WIMAX.
SBE is designed to meet the increasing demand of companies for a fully loaded Internet service that can support bandwidth-intensive, business-critical multi-media applications. It is a sound alternative to wired services, enabling businesses to boost productivity while keeping costs in check.
Both SBE Wireless and WIMAX services can be easily deployed to areas that cannot be reached by other ISPs (Internet service providers), making SMART Bro Enterprise a sound alternative either as main or primary internet circuit or as back-up facility to existing โ€œwiredโ€ links.
Especially in the rural areas, wired or cable internet facilities may be unavailable for corporations and SMEs. Corporations demand high bandwidth broadband connections to support their daily operations. Most companies rely on internet connectivity sending correspondence, data files and networking. Setting up an internet cafรฉ business would require stable, fast and dedicated speeds for their customers. SBE is the best choice since there is no need for cables so deployment is fast, it has a wider reach and high bandwidth from up to 4Mbps.
Apart from the Fixed Wireless and WIMAX, SBE offers SMART Bro Share-It. Taking off from the demands of a shared internet connection, SMART Bro Share-it allows customers to share wireless broadband access with other computers in the home or office network via WiFi technology.
For a more personal mobile broadband experience, customers can always opt to use SMART Bro Plug-it. Just plug-in the device in your PC or laptopโ€™s USB slot and youโ€™re ready to go and connect to the internet. The advantage of the SMART Bro Plug-it compared to the other connectivity solutions, is that it is handy and very portable. Its USB dongle type device is no bigger than your thumb.
I have long been using this particular device and it is just so dependable during high mobility situations.
I remember taking one with me during a family trip to a resort in San Antonio, Zambales about three years ago. I think that was the first-generation plug-it with that black dongle hanging via a USB cable (which was greatly improved now as it no longer precariously hangs from either a laptop or desktop).
The unit worked well as I had to read newspaper and send my column article to this paper then. It did not work well but splendidly, dependably well as I used it from a remote, island-type location. Was I happy with it? Not only I, but others in our entourage who hitched on my mobile internet access.
*****
What is also amazing with this new suite is that they come with optional bundled devices. They include gadgets like iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab which could be availed of for as low as P1,400 a month for two years on top of the monthly service fee of their Smart Bro Enterprise SIM only packages. Smart will not charge interest for payment of the devices.
Some of the offerings under the new SBE suite come with negotiable prices, depending on the type and speed of connection. This means that customers and subscribers are given the choices and flexibility to choose the appropriate connection that would suit their business and personal needs.
