Councilor: Too many IDs ‘complicated’
February 16, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — City of San Fernando Councilor Alex Patio said Tuesday that too many identification (ID) cards may complicate the barangay information system.
The call for the ID system in battling crimes and ensuring peace and safety is sweeping towns and cities across the province, after Governor Lilia Pineda ordered for the immediate creation of a barangay information system and safety plan where residents and transients in more than 500 Pampanga villages are required to register in their respective barangay offices and secure necessary IDs and clearances for transients.
The use of the ID system was concurred by second district Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo during the recent emergency provincial peace and order council meeting at the Capitol, where the rise in crime, perpetrated by transients in some villages, was pinpointed.
“The move of our Capitol officials is laudable and we in the city would follow the order using our Fernandino card. We will not be issuing another form of ID as it may complicate the proposed barangay information system. We hope our Fernandino Card will be used as a standard or model in the ID system,” Patio, the acknowledged “father of the Fernandino Card,” said.
The Fernandino Card is not just an ID, he said, but an all-purpose card for access to basic services of the city.
“As for transients, they will only be given the Fernandino Card only if they manifest the intention to permanently reside in the city and register here as a voter. That’s the point really if another ID will be issued to them in barangays. They might be able to get one if we do not restrict the system to a single identification card,” Patio added. (Jovi T.
