Hundreds wowed by ‘flower drop’

ANGELES CITY — Hundreds of couples had an early Valentine’s treat over the weekend as a shopping mall here hired a helicopter to throw flower petals in the sky, showering the crowd below.

Thousands of petals of red roses showered couples and families that flocked the event center of MarQuee Mall on Sunday.
A helicopter that circled the event center five times dropped the thousands of petals.

Smiles were painted on the faces of the crowd as the petals, which they tried to catch, rained on them.
Danielle Guiwan, marketing officer of MarQuee Mall, said the “Helicopter Flower Drop” aims to give mall goers a memorable Valentine experience.

“Ayala Malls has been known for its signature events, bringing compelling and unique experiences to shoppers so we thought of surprising them through this helicopter flower drop,” Guiwan said.
As part of their 2011 Valentine’s Day theme, “Love is Full of Surprise,” a flash dance mob followed the flower drop where nearly 100 dancers rendered an upbeat dance number.

It is the second time that the mall hosted a flower drop, as they also wowed the crowd last year.

On Valentine’s Day, celebrities Iya Villania and Kris Lawrence serenaded shoppers at the malls’ Activity Center.
At the same center, there was a Valentine Balloon Drop during night time.

The balloons, dropped along with confetti, had surprise treats and freebies for shoppers.

“The number of showers that waited for our Valentine’s treat only proves that MarQuee Mall continues to be the favorite gathering place in Central Luzon,” Guiwan said. (Charlene Cayabyab)
