Pampanga hosts peace and order council summit
February 9, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Governor Lilia Pineda was elated that Pampanga is hosting Wednesday’s Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) Summit at the Holiday Inn in Clark Freeport.
In an interview Tuesday, Pineda said: “We are always supportive of the efforts of the RPOC regarding our peace and order situation in the province and the region.”
The governor said the summit is “very timely,” as it will be held at a time when Pampanga has been lately the center and stage-off point for crimes, particularly carnapping, and therefore “fitting that we host it, knowing that we are very keen on neutralizing the syndicates behind the crimes.”
The summit, themed “Halina’t Makiisa, Isulong ang Kapayapaan, Tungo sa Maunlad na Pamayanan,” is aimed at providing a venue for local officials, non-government organizations, government agencies, the business sector and the academe to discuss the initiatives and measures to address the pressing peace and order issues in the region.
The RPOC, in coordination with the Department of Interior and Local Government, is the principal sponsors of the one-day summit. It will be attended by all provincial governors, mayors, Liga ng mga Barangay presidents, committee chairmen on peace and order of the Provincial Board, city and municipal councils, member-agencies, and representatives from multi-sectoral groups.
The results of the summit will be crucial in the resolution of peace and order problems in Central Luzon, particularly those that have recently happened in Pampanga, Pineda said, as she reiterated her commitment to make the province “a peaceful place for people to live in and for sustained progress to be achieved.” (Jovi T.
