Thousands swamp open jobs fair
February 4, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Some 1,800 job seekers on Wednesday swamped the Atrium of City Hall Wednesday, hoping to get an opportunity from the Kaganapan 2011 open jobs fair.
The employment and recruitment program is part of the city’s 10th cityhood anniversary, and the first of a series of three job provision programs in a year by the City Government.
Award-winning Public Employment Services Office Manager Donny Sayre, also head of the city’s Community Affairs Division, said that over 38 local plus six overseas employment agencies participated in this year’s first open jobs fair.
“It is now an open jobs fair as our Mayor Oscar Rodriguez wanted to give the same opportunity to non-Fernandinos. Again, like in the past, a good majority were hired on the spot,” said Sayre.
Sayre also disclosed that the complementing trade fair in front of City Hall is unique.
“We are featuring new products of our cooperatives, including women’s groups, which they have developed from our free livelihood training programs. It is something very new which we call ‘Tatak Fernandino,” Sayre said.
