Pampanga town celebrates ’4th Ibon Ebon Festival’
February 4, 2011
CANDABA – More than 10,000 participants, including street dancers, are expected to grace the celebration of this town’s 4th Ibon Ebon (Egg and Bird) Festival Friday.
Mayor Jerry Pelayo said the festival will be the best ever not only in Central Luzon but also in the entire country.
“Tatalunin natin yung malalaking festival sa bansa dahil talagang pinaghandaan natin itong 4th Ibon Ebon Festival. Sa costume pa lang makikita natin ang ganda ng pagdiriwang,” he said.
The Ibon Ebon Festival makes the town a favorite destination for tourists, bird lovers, watchers and bird enthusiasts.
The festival has also been officially recognized as a national Philippine festival, after it had been “successfully” celebrated for three consecutive years.
Ibon Ebon was first celebrated on February 1 and 2 in 1998.
Pelayo said the celebration will be different in terms of locally inspired costumes by the participants who came from various schools, institutions and barangays here.
The celebration will highlight high school talents and street dancers in bird costumes, a parade of floats, trade fair, special band concert, parade of best dressed itik, special tribu performances, itik and boat race (karerang bangka).
Booths in the trade fair feature varieties of freshly harvested vegetables, as well as fish and other aquatic produce such as tilapia, hito, and dalagang bukid. (Herbert P. Mapiles)
