Proposal to build houses for Arayat folk approved
February 4, 2011
ARAYAT — The National Housing Authority (NHA) announced Wednesday that it has approved Congressman Aurelio Gonzales’s proposal for the development of a 1.5 hectare land in San Juan Bano here for the relocation of the 2009 Mt. Arayat landslide victims.
NHA general manager Chito Cruz said a P10-million fund had been set for the building of facilities close to 100 houses in the said site.
Cruz also lauded Gonzales for donating the land for the development of the NHA.
Cruz said the NHA now no longer buys lands for land development. Instead, it is urging local government units to use their available lands for housing development in partnership with the NHA.
This, he said, will save National Government funds and will also help local government units in maximizing the potential of the lands for housing development.
It can be recalled that for more than a year, landslide victims stayed under the tents provided by a cause-oriented group until the Provincial Government initiated the construction of the bunkhouses.
Gonzales and Cruz said the new houses will serve as a long-term solution to the housing needs of the landslide victims.
The landslide tragedy claimed lives and rendered dozens of families homeless as government declared a danger zone around the area of the tragedy site in Barangay San Juan Bano.
“This Housing Project will finally see to the formal solution of the housing problem of the said residents and we can assure them that the NHA will be working closely with third district Representative Aurelio Gonzales Jr.,” Cruz said.(Ian Ocampo Flora)
