February 3, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — City officials led by Mayor Oscar Rodriguez and private sector representative and executive committee chairman Rene Romero on Monday morning officially led the three-week-long celebration of Kaganapan 2011, or the city’s 10th City Charter Anniversary.
This year’s celebration is themed “A Decade of Human Excellence.”
Kaganapan 2011 features events that would not only bring joy to Fernandinos but would also focus on public service, particularly for indigents.
The celebration started last Saturday with a 600-bike Cycling Caravan participated in by cyclists from the city and nearby towns.
On Sunday, teachers and educators were honored for their exemplary contributions in producing well-rounded Fernandino students during the observance of Teachers’ Day.
On Monday too, Rodriguez led the commemoration of the 135th birth anniversary of Pedro Abad Santos, the founder of the Socialist Party of the Philippines here in Central Luzon. A theatrical production was also staged later in the evening in honor of the hero at the Heroes Hall Amphitheater.
On Tuesday morning, city officials and multi-sectoral representatives launched a city-wide cleanup day and urban gardening program to raise environmental awareness among Fernandinos.
Today, thousands of job seekers are expected to troop to the open job fair while hundreds more are expected to swarm the Kaganapan trade fair.
On Thursday, Rodriguez will convene the Multi-Sectoral Governance Council and report on the plans and programs of the City Government. February 4, the exact cityhood charter day, will be highlighted by The Outstanding Fernandino Awards.
Friday will focus on the country’s biggest 4×4 Off Road Challenge, led by the Pampanga Off Roaders Club Inc., at the Gugu Dike.
Succeeding days will feature the launching of the Special Program for the Employment of Students, the awarding of Fernandino Cards for indigents, graduation of participants of the free livelihood training, the official opening of the Himlayang Fernandino public cemetery, Persons with Disability Day, and health programs like free medical and dental missions, and Silip Tenga, among others.
