Schools ordered to observe austerity in yearly JS prom
February 3, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Public school officials here were reminded to adhere to order of the Department of Education (DepEd) to make the annual Junior-Senior Promenade (JS prom) simple and inexpensive.
City Schools Superintendent Dr. May Eclar on Wednesday said public schools should keep the celebrations simple, as much as possible avoiding unnecessary collections.
She said officials should collect only the amount allowed by parents through their Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
“There should be no forced collection. Any financial concerns should be discussed with parents of the students so that we will avoid [a] misunderstanding.” she added.
The JS Prom event is a much-anticipated event by most students in high school who go to lengths of preparing expensive clothes just to meet with the tradition of dressing up well for the event.
But Eclar reminded both students and school officials that though the JS Prom is a special event, austerity should be observed.
She added that school officials could still make the event special through creativity and networking. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
