Telecommunication firms urged to fast-track interconnection
February 3, 2011
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Vice Governor Joseller Guiao on Monday asked Globe’s Innove and the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company to fast-track their proposed interconnection to benefit Kapampangans.
Guiao, during a hearing on the long-delayed interconnection of the two competing telecommunication companies, said the interconnection backlogs, which started last year, have been depriving Pampanga constituents of vital services.
“I hope that you can meet once and for all to settle your differences and come up with an agreeable schedule on the interconnection for the sake of our constituents,” Guiao said.
The interconnection issue has been on a standstill since August last year, despite the fact that the country’s two largest telecommunication companies have been working to resolve the issue.
During the hearing, mismatches in interconnection schedules and uncoordinated moves by the two communication giants were revealed. (Jovi T. De Leon)
