Guv: CarWorld out of ‘watch list’

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Governor Lilia Pineda stressed recently that respected car dealer CarWorld Inc. is not on the watch list of “suspicious” used-car dealers.

The governor noted that CarWorld Inc., owned by automotive and dealership honcho Levy P. Laus, is a legitimate entity whose transactions are clear and legal.

Carmix, a subsidiary of the Laus Group of Companies and affiliated with CarWorld, Inc., has been in the business of selling pre-owned cars for decades now.

Pineda’s statements came in light of her recent order for all prime law enforcement agencies to crack down on new and “unlicensed” secondhand-car dealerships, following the controversial carjacking incidents allegedly perpetrated by the Dominguez Group, who are reportedly based in this city and in other parts of Central Luzon.
“Ang ating puntirya ay iyung mga bago at unlicensed car dealers na nagtitinda ng second hand (What we’re after are those new and unlicensed secondhand-car dealers),” Pineda said.

In an emergency meeting of the Peace and Order Council last week, the governor wielded the iron hand to put a stop to rising criminality in the province, coordinating with the Philippine National Police, Department of Trade and Industry, Highway Patrol Group, Philippine Army, National Bureau of Investigation, Land Transportation Office and the province’s mayors and barangay officials.

Pineda has ordered all agencies to inspect, monitor and investigate cars in the region whose plate numbers are not registered. (Jovi T. De Leon)
