CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Some P15 million worth of projects for Northville 14 in Barangay Calulut here are set to be implemented within this year by the National Housing Authority (NHA).
Third District Representative Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr. and NHA general manager Atty. Chito Cruz bared this during a site visit at the said resettlement area on Wednesday.
Cruz said a 22-classroom building will be built at the community school in the said area at an estimated cost of P8.3 million.
The building will cater to the growing needs of the Northville 14 Elementary School here, which is home to some 3,434 elementary students. The number of enrollees increases by some one percent yearly.
Gonzales, for his part, said he is now coordinating with the Department of Education (DepEd) for additional teachers for the said school.
Gonzales said he has also asked the NHA for the construction of protective grills and fencing for the whole school compound for added security and for the safety of the students.
Gonzales said a funding of P1.5 million is now in place for the needed development of the said school, adding that he will be personally sponsoring all the payables and collections that the students need to pay each year. “Our students and parents here would no longer need to worry about the things that need to be paid at the start of each year. Also I have instructed my staff to start the feeding program here for the improvement of the health conditions of children.”
Gonzales is also set to facilitate the items for 23 additional teachers here.
“I am also going to give some 10 pedicabs for the village and will be raffling off 20 additional pedicabs,” Gonzales said.
Other projects for Northville 14 include the construction of a covered court worth P5.5 million and the improvement of livelihood programs here. All of the said programs, according to Cruz, are intended to improve the residents’ standard of living. The said projects are set to start within this year.
Northville 14 is a relocation site for residents affected by the ongoing relocation of informal settlers along the old Philippine National Railways project.
The relocation of residents at Northville started in 2009. Currently there are some 3,935 families in the relocation site, while 99 families are awaiting relocation. (Ian Ocampo Flora)
