Ex-city exec asks city to help orphanage

Wednesday, February 2, 2011

ANGELES CITY — Former city councilor Louie Reyes has appealed to the City Government and other national government agencies to extend assistance to an orphanage here that is presently supporting and taking care of 32 girls.

Reyes made the appeal during the celebration of his 36th birthday at the Children’s Home of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Incorporated (The Home) inside the Santa Maria Village in Barangay Balibago over the weekend.
Reyes stressed the essence of the corporate social responsibility (CSR) some of the big companies implement as part of their civic programs.

He said he emulates this principle and makes beneficial acts for the less fortunate in what he calls individual social responsibility.

During his speech before the orphans, Reyes disclosed other problems that need to be addressed including poverty, peace and order in the country, and environmental concerns, among others.

The Children’s Home of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Incorporated, a non-profit and non-stock corporation, was founded about 30 years ago by members of the Daughters of Mary Immaculate International, Immaculate Heart Circle, Angeles and the Knights of Columbus, Holy Sepulcher Council No. 4278.

The principal purpose for which The Home was created was to provide home for the orphaned, abandoned and neglected children of both sexes aged 12 years and below.

It had been home to hundreds of children over the past several years. Recently, the Board of Trustees of The Home decided to admit to its fold only girls aged 6 to 12, who may be retained up to high school, or even college.

The orphanage is administered by the Board of Trustees composed of 11 members from the membership of the Daughters of Mary Immaculate, Incorporated (DMI) and the Knights of Columbus (K of C).

Sun.Star Pampanga learned that the children’s home is not receiving any subsidy from the City Government.
