Trade office sees better economy for Pampanga
January 20, 2011
GUAGUA โ The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said Wednesday it sees a better local economy for 2011 as small and medium enterprises (SMEs) continue to become strong, coupled with the ongoing development projects in Pampanga.
DTI provincial caretaker Leonila Baluyut, in an interview here, said Pampanga will continue to attract big ticket investments with ongoing development projects and improvement of roads and other economic infrastructures.
Currently, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of the Sta. Cruz Bypass and has been working double time to finish the widening and rehabilitation of the McArthur Highway in the City of San Fernando and the Jose Abad Santos Avenue that crosses until Lubao town.
Baluyut said these infrastructure projects are perfect โcome-onsโ for big ticket investments and realty developments.
โThe contribution of SMEs to economic performance will be significant as we project that they would become more competitive,โ Baluyut said.
Baluyut said the DTI will be advocating closely on the implementation of plans to advocate consumer rights and responsibilities, actively work with implementing agencies and businesses in undertaking consumer welfare protection programs, and monitor the implementation of Product Quality Standards and Fair Trade Laws among others.
However, she said that local government units should be prepared in meeting the needs of the local business community, particularly ordinary SMEs.
She said the DTI is willing to work closely with local government units to improve their frontline services to meet with the needs of businesses in their locality.
โGovernment and the sectors in the community should also be open to address environmental issues as these affect not just the business community but all sectors in general,โ Baluyut said.
