“Our very good mayor, Madam Mylyn Pineda recently launched a campaign for solid waste management. This is in line also with the DepEd’s programs for healthy environment for children. We have been conducting a series of meetings with the teachers and parents for taking care of our waste segregation practice, our clinic and our science garden and we are proud that we were named as first placer in our district,” Punsalang said.
Punsalang added that San Pablo Elementary School will represent their district in the sectoral competition this month. They will be competing with other schools from Guagua, Floridablanca, Bacolor and others.
Aside from practicing waste segregation and having a functional clinic, Punsalang said San Pablo has also an impressive science and herbal garden that is part of the criteria for judging the best health implementor among the elementary schools.
“We are really proud of our school and our teachers’ partnership with the parents. The protection of our health, as well as of our environment, is a primary responsibility of each and everyone. San Pablo Elementary School religiously does its part in this crusade. We are implementing a 100 percent school waste segregation, not only to educate the students but also to help the community and the local government in their collective campaign for clean environment,” Punsalang said.
Punsalang added that elementary students should be involved in ways and campaigns for the protection of Mother Earth. She said it is better to start the children early in such noble campaign so they would also be responsible citizens when they get to age.
“Global warming and climate change affects all of us so it is good that we are involving the children at an early age so they could be part of the solution to our growing environmental problems. Besides, a healthy child with a healthy environment is most likely a child with a healthy and productive mind,” she added.
