Lawmaker visits dialysis patients
December 23, 2010
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO β Third district Representative Aurelio Gonzales Jr. visited Wednesday 15 dialysis patients at the Mt. Carmel Medical Center here.
Gonzales distributed grocery items and assuring the continuation of financial assistance for the treatment of the patients under his Dialysis Assistance Program.
He visited the Dialysis Section of the said hospital accompanied by relatives of the patients and hospital officials.
Gonzales made the seasonal gesture as part of his commitment to meet with his constituents whenever he could.
βThe visit was also fruitful in the sense that we were able to look at possible improvements on the program. I am also planning to increase the amount of funding for the whole program so that we can accommodate more indigents,β Gonzales said.
The Dialysis Assistance Program was started by Gonzales three months ago and had been able to support the dialysis needs of some 100 patients to date.
Gonzales said the program does not discriminate between district constituencies.
In fact, some of the beneficiaries of the program come from Porac and Floridablanca, which are outside of the third district.
Gonzales said funding for the program is sourced from his congressional and personal funds.
He added the assistance program is essential in helping families with meager income in caring for their loved ones under dialysis.
βDialysis treatments today cost hundreds of pesos. This assistance program is very essential in reducing the cost of dialysis treatment,β Gonzales said.
Gonzales also urged Kapampangans to start a shift in their lifestyle and eating habits.
He said that a change in eating habits can very much reduce the possibility of kidney failure adding observing proper diet and exercise can help fight common lifestyle diseases.
Lester Limin, 23, said the program of Gonzales had been helpful in the treatment of his ailing mother.
He said that because of the assistance, their family can now care for their mother better and address other pressing financial concerns.
Limin said their family is very thankful for the support given by Gonzales.
Gonzales, for his part, said he is working on increasing the funding allocation for the program.
