‘Oplan Tsinelas’ benefits 200 schoolchildren

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — Some 200 schoolchildren from Barangay Sto. Niño here received pairs of slippers from the Jesus S. Lazatin (JSL) Foundation, led by siblings Councilor Jimmy Lazatin, Marco Lazatin, and Clarita Lazatin-Magat recently.
The Oplan Tsinelas is a joint project of the Sto. Niño Elementary School headed by Principal Philip Medina, Outreach Community Advocate Nurses Assigned in Rural Service nurse Ezekiel Francisco and in close coordination with Brgy. Captain Armando Bustamante.
JSL Foundation, in the spirit of Christmas and sharing, decided to sponsor the slippers and Noche Buena goods for the family of the recipient pupils.
The selected students were the ones who came to school with worn-out footwear and some with no slippers at all.
Councilor Lazatin attested to this. He recalled that in 2004, the first time he campaigned and first vied for a seat in the City Council, many children who tagged along his house to visit were barefooted.
“I made a silent promise to myself that in the future I will do something about this problem,” Lazatin said.
True enough, Councilor Lazatin and the JSL Foundation have sponsored several Oplan Tsinelas events. Last April, children from Barangay Magliman were the fortunate recipients of footwear. (Ian Ocampo Flora/Sunnex)
