Korean fugitive nabbed at Clark airport
A South Korean fugitive who tried to sneak into the country despite being in the blacklist was arrested by alert immigration officers at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport at Clark Field in Pampanga, it was learned Sunday.
Arrested while trying to have his passport stamped was Ree Gun Jo who arrived at Clark airport last August 11 from Macau.
Bureau of Immigration (BI) officer-in-charge Ronaldo Ledesma said Ree is wanted for alleged murder in Macau and is now detained at the Bicutan immigration jail pending issuance of the order for the fugitive’s summary deportation by the BI Board of Commissioners.
Ledesma also bared that some influential people interceded immediately after Ree was taken into custody. This prompted Ledesma to order DMIA immigration officers to tighten screening procedures of all incoming passengers.
BI-DMIA head supervisor, lawyer Carlos Capulong, added that Ree has been in the bureauโs blacklist since Nov. 11, 2006 when he was blacklisted upon request of the South Korean embassy police attachรฉ in Manila.
Capulong said then-Immigration Commissioner Alipio Fernandez Jr. ordered Reeโs inclusion in the blacklist after the embassy reported that the South Korean is wanted for the alleged murder of a certain Young Wook Bae in Macau on Nov. 3, 2006. Also blacklisted were three other South Koreans who allegedly conspired with Ree in killing their compatriot.
The South Korean embassy sought their inclusion in the BI blacklist due to reports that they were planning to enter and hide in the Philippines.
