Pampanga to Honor GMA’s Dad

SAN FERNANDO CITY, Pampanga — As the birth centenary of former President Diosdado “Apung Dadong” P. Macapagal draws near, the provincial government and some concerned organizations in Pampanga have stepped up their preparations to ensure a meaningful celebration on the grand occasion of Pampanga’s most distinguished and revered son.

With the joint efforts of the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), the provincial government of Pampanga and the municipal government of Lubao, various activities were lined up to mark the former President’s birth centenary on September 28.

In a recent meeting of the event organizers in Lubao town, it was agreed that the celebration will start with a wreath-laying ceremony at the bust of Macapagal located in front of the provincial capitol at 7 a.m.

To be led by Governor Lilia G. Pineda and other officials of the provincial government, the wreath-laying ceremonies will be followed by a motorcade from the City of San Fernando going to Macapagal’s birth place in Lubao where a concelebrated mass will ensue at 8 a.m. at the oldest church of Saint Agustin.

Macapagal’s daughter and likewise former President, now second district representative, Gloria M. Arroyo, will be the guest of honor in the ceremonial program.

According to Rey G. Arciga, officer-in-charge of the Arts, Culture and Tourism Office of Pampanga (ACTOP), the program will be highlighted with the presentation of commemorative stamps to Arroyo and the signing of the deed of donation of the Diosdado Macapagal Museum and Library.

Arroyo and NHCP Chairman Ambeth R. Ocampo will sign the said deed of donation, Arciga added.
